As per the news reports, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) informed stock exchanges on Tuesday that Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Milind Lakkad has retired from the company with immediate effect.
The company stated that Sudeep Kunnumal, who was appointed as CHRO Designate on March 14, 2025, will take charge as the Chief Human Resources Officer from October 1, 2025.
Lakkad joined TCS in 1987 as a trainee. He was elevated as head of the manufacturing practice in 2006 and later led the manufacturing business group from 2008. In May 2019, he was appointed Executive Vice-President and Chief Human Resources Officer of the company.
Kunnumal has been with TCS since 2000. He currently heads the HR function for the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) vertical, which contributes 35-40% of TCS’ revenue. He has worked in HR leadership positions across North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
Over his 25 years at TCS, Kunnumal has handled areas across the HR employee life cycle. He has led enterprise-wide management changes, focusing on talent integration and transitions during onboarding, mergers and acquisitions. He has also worked on talent management, leadership development and workforce deployment using technology-based solutions in the BFSI vertical.
As per the news reports, Kunnumal is credited with creating CodeVita, the global programming contest that set a Guinness World Record and influenced campus hiring practices. He holds a master’s degree in Human Resource Management from Madurai Kamaraj University.

As of October 1, 2025, 10:27 am, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was trading at ₹2,870.60, a 0.62% decrease from the previous closing price.
With this change, TCS marks the retirement of Lakkad after nearly four decades at the company and begins a transition under Kunnumal, who steps into the CHRO role from October 2025.
