Tata Steel and AWIPL Signed Operation Contract for Air Separation Unit

Tata Steel has entered into a strategic 20-year partnership with Air Water India Private Limited (AWIPL) to operate and maintain its state-of-the-art Air Separation Unit (ASU) in Jamshedpur, as per the news reports.
The collaboration marks a major step towards enhancing Tata Steel’s industrial gas infrastructure and boosting operational efficiency through the use of advanced cryogenic technologies.
Enhancing Steel Operations Through Long-Term Partnership
The long-term contract was formally signed between Peeyush Gupta, Vice President (TQM, GSP & SC), Tata Steel, and Kausik Mukhopadhyay, Managing Director, Air Water India Private Limited. The agreement entrusts AWIPL with the operation and maintenance of the Jamshedpur ASU, which is designed to produce 1,800 tons of oxygen per day, along with nitrogen, argon, and dry compressed air.
These essential gases play a vital role in Tata Steel’s Blast Furnaces and Steel Melting Shops, supporting continuous production and metallurgical processes. The ASU is presently under the stabilisation phase and is expected to be officially handed over to AWIPL next month, ensuring a seamless transition into full-scale operations.
Leveraging Global Expertise for Operational Excellence
Through this collaboration, Tata Steel will benefit from AWIPL’s extensive global experience in cryogenic operations and remote maintenance support, particularly drawing insights from the company’s advanced facilities in Japan.
The move underscores Tata Steel’s commitment to integrating sustainable and efficient technologies into its operations, reinforcing its position as a global leader in responsible steel production.
