Tata Steel announced on October 15, 2025, that it will start deploying women employees across all 3 shifts at its Jamshedpur plant. Around 543 women from 21 departments will be part of the rollout, which began on October 14, 2025, and will continue in phases. The process is expected to be completed by February 1, 2026.
This comes under Tata Steel’s internal programme ‘Udaan: Wings of Change’, which focuses on increasing the participation of women in plant operations. The company said the expansion of this initiative follows government approval to allow women to work night and rotational shifts under specific safety rules.
The company said the deployment is being done in a phased manner across departments. Safety and logistical arrangements, including transport and workplace facilities, have been planned to support the employees during the shift operations. The company also mentioned that the plan is structured for smooth execution across all functions.
The Jamshedpur plant is one of Tata Steel’s oldest and largest facilities in India. It plays a central role in the company’s steel production and other initiatives. Over the years, the plant has introduced several operational and employee-related programmes for workforce expansion and internal restructuring.
In a separate statement, Tata Steel reported a 7% increase in crude steel production in India for the second quarter of the financial year, reaching 5.67 million tonnes. The company said production improved after the completion of blast furnace relining work at the Jamshedpur facility. It also noted that its galvanising line at Kalinganagar has received operational approvals from original equipment manufacturers.
