The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in observance of Diwali Laxmi Pujan. Normal trading hours will resume after the festival. The markets will also stay closed on Wednesday, October 22, for Diwali Balipratipada.
Additionally, the currency derivatives segment will remain shut on both days, while the commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts (EGR) segments will remain open for evening trading between 5:00 pm and 11:30/11:55 pm.
Muhurat trading, the special one-hour trading session held on Diwali, will take place on Tuesday, October 21. This year, the session will be held in the afternoon from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, a change from the usual evening timing.
A block deal session will be held from 1:15 pm to 1:30 pm, followed by a special pre-open session from 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm.
Muhurat trading marks the beginning of the new Samvat year and is considered highly auspicious by investors. Many traders view it as a symbolic start to a prosperous year, making fresh investments during this brief but significant window.

After Diwali, the Indian stock markets will remain closed on November 5 for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birthday and on December 25 for Christmas.
With the markets closed for Diwali Laxmi Pujan tomorrow, all eyes are on the Muhurat trading session, which marks the beginning of a new financial year, a time for optimism, prosperity, and fresh opportunities in Samvat 2082.
