Rapido is preparing to expand its food delivery pilot, Ownly, across more areas in Bengaluru, according to NDTV Profit reports. The company plans to target new pin codes with a high number of students and office-goers to test user demand.

Expansion Plans Underway

Ownly was launched in August and currently operates in HSR Layout, BTM Layout, and Koramangala. The next phase of expansion is expected to include areas with a higher concentration of regular food delivery users. The company is also in talks to introduce the service in Delhi and Mumbai at a later stage.

Testing a Flat-Fee Model

Unlike existing players such as Swiggy and Zomato, Ownly does not charge commissions on order value. Instead, it follows a 3-tier delivery fee structure. Customers pay ₹20 for orders below ₹100, ₹25 for orders above ₹100, and ₹50 for orders above ₹400. This pricing system applies directly to users through the Ownly app.

Early Response and Data Focus

Demand for food delivery through Ownly has remained limited since its launch. However, expanding the pilot is expected to help Rapido gather data on customer behaviour and order frequency. The findings will likely guide decisions on whether to scale the service to other major cities.

Business Diversification

Rapido has been adding new services beyond ride-hailing. The company recently introduced a “travel” section on its main app, enabling users to book train and flight tickets as well as hotels. These services are being provided in partnership with Goibibo, redBus, and ConfirmTkt.

Conclusion

In addition to its new ventures, Rapido aims to expand its primary ride-hailing operations to 500 cities by the end of the year. The Ownly pilot and recent partnerships indicate ongoing efforts to test multiple business segments under its existing platform.
