NIFTY50 Slips 140 Points from Day’s High; Reliance, SBI and ICICI Bank Among Top Draggers on August 24, 2026

The NIFTY50 index opened higher and crossed the 24,300 mark but failed to sustain gains as profit booking emerged at higher levels.

On Monday, August 24, 2026, the NIFTY50 index opened in the green and moved above the 24,300 mark to register an intraday high of 24,313. However, at higher levels, the index failed to sustain momentum as profit booking emerged, leading to a decline of nearly 140 points from the day’s high. As of 1:55 PM, the NIFTY50 index was trading at 24,160 down by 90 points or 0.38%.

The NIFTY50 index opened August 24, 2026, session at 24,285. It marked an intraday high of 24,313 and low of 24,152. The index is currently down by 0.38% trading at 24,160.

The advance decline ratio for the NIFTY50 index was titled in favour of declining stocks, with 35 constituents out of the 50 were trading in the red, while 15 were trading in the green.  

Sectoral Performance: Majority of Sectors were in Red 

On Monday, August 24, 2026, most key sectors were seen trading in the red, led by Nifty PSU Bank Index, which declined 1.25% followed by Nifty Bank, which fell by 0.74%. On the other hand, the Nifty Metal index rose by 1.01%, while the Nifty Realty was up by 0.29%.

Conclusion 

The NIFTY50 index has slipped over 140 points from the day’s high to trade below the level of 24,200 dragged by Reliance Industries, SBI, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Bajaj Finance.
