NIFTY50 Closes in Red for 5th Straight Session on August 17, 2026

On August 17, 2026, the NSE NIFTY50 index ended lower down by 0.32% or 78.35 points. During the index, it marked a low of 24,226.95 and a high of 24,360.10. Among its constituents, Hindalco emerged as the top gainer, while Infosys led the losers.

The NIFTY50 index opened at 24,343.45 and was last traded at 24,339.80, reflecting a minor decrease of 0.32%. The index reached a high of 24,360.10 and a low of 24,226.95 during the trading session, with a total traded volume of 21,92,03,404 shares and a traded value of ₹17,827.76 crore.
Top Gainers on NIFTY50
Hindalco Industries Limited emerged as top gainer among the NIFTY50 constituents as it gained 2.18% at ₹1,051.95. Hindalco shares marked an intraday high of ₹1,060 and a low of ₹1,032.70. Total traded volume on NSE stood at 29,96,764 shares, as a result total traded value stood at ₹313.34 crore.
Axis Bank followed with a surge of 1.36%, opening at ₹1,220 and stock trading at ₹1,234.
Tata Steel also saw a 1.36% jump, stock traded at ₹186. HDFC Life Insurance Company and Kotak Mahindra Bank rounded out the top gainers with increases of 1.33% and 1.11%, respectively.
Top Losers on NIFTY50
Infosys Limited marked a sharp decline of 2.8% as a result, the stock emerged as a top loser. The stock opened at ₹1,163.90 and closed at ₹1,136.10.
Sun Pharma and HCL Technologies also ended in the red, with a fall of 2.54% and 2.32%, respectively.
Nestle India and TCS were among the other notable losers, with Nestle India stock trading at ₹1,469.70, down by 1.96%, and TCS stock trading at ₹2,314.90, with a loss of 1.95%.
