The NIFTY BANK Index opened the October 5, 2026, session with a positive outlook at 54,840.65 and registered an intraday low of 54,628.50 soon after opening. The index later touched an intraday high of 55,192.65.

The NIFTY BANK index opened above its previous close at the 54,840.65 level and hit an intraday low of 54,628.50. 

As the session progressed, strong buying interest emerged, lifting the index by over 740 points from its previous close to touch a high of 55,192.65. 

At 11:06 AM, the index was trading at 54,690.20, up by 239.45 points or 0.44% on October 5, 2026.

The market breadth of NIFTY BANK remained extremely strong during the morning session on October 5, 2026, with 13 stocks advancing and 1 stock declining. 

Broad-based buying was observed across index heavyweights, leaving the vast majority of index constituents in the green. 

Top Gainers and Losers of NIFTY BANK Index on October 5, 2026 

The banking index recorded widespread gains across its constituents during the session as of 11:06 AM. 

Among the gainers, AU Small Finance Bank (AUBANK) led the advance with a Last Traded Price (LTP) of 1,015.90, gaining 28.90 points (+2.93%). 

It was followed by Punjab National Bank (PNB), which rose by 2.60 points (+2.37%) to an LTP of 112.17. 

Bank of Baroda (BANKBARODA) also traded firm at an LTP of 235.14 with a value increase of 4.32 points (+1.87%),while Federal Bank (FEDERALBNK) rounded out the top gainers at an LTP of 323.75, adding 5.55 points (+1.74%). 

Conversely, heavy selling pressure was observed among the top losers, HDFC Bank (HDFCBANK) dropped the sharpest in percentage terms, falling by 11.90 points (-1.65%) to an LTP of 709.30.

Conclusion 

On Monday, October 5, 2026, the NIFTY BANK Index traded with gains of 0.44% by midday, supported by broad-based buying. Strength in AU Small Finance Bank, Punjab National Bank and Bank of Baroda lifted the index higher even as a few constituents lagged the broader move.
