The NSE Nifty 50 index opened the September 7, 2026, session with a negative bias and registered an intraday high of 23,890.00 soon after opening. The index later touched an intraday low of 23,751.75.

The Nifty 50 Index opened below its previous close of 23,897.70 at the 23,883.15 level and registered an intraday high of 23,890.00.  

As the session progressed, continuous selling pressure emerged, dragging the index down by over 140 points from its previous close to touch an intraday low of 23,751.75.  

At 12:44 PM, the index was trading at 23,759.15, down by 138.55 points or 0.58% on September 7, 2026. 

Advance Decline Ratio of Nifty 50 Index 

The advance decline ratio of Nifty 50 remained weak during the afternoon session on September 7, 2026, as only 11 constituents of the index managed to trade in the green, while a significant majority of 38 stocks were trading in the red, leaving 1 stock unchanged. 

Top Gainers and Losers of Nifty 50 Index on September 7, 2026 

The market index recorded mixed movements across its major constituents during the session. Among the gainers, Maruti (MARUTI) led the positive traction with a Last Traded Price (LTP) of 12,816.00, gaining 122.00 points (+0.96%).  

It was followed by Apollo Hospitals (APOLLOHOSP), which rose by 67.50 points (+0.78%) to an LTP of 8,717.50. Coal India (COALINDIA) maintained a slight positive bias, trading at an LTP of 418.05 with a value increase of 2.70 points (+0.65%), while Power Grid Corporation (POWERGRID) rounded out the top gainers at an LTP of 268.00, ticking up by 2.00 points (+0.75%). 

Conversely, severe selling pressure was observed among the top losers. Infosys (INFY) dropped the sharpest in percentage terms, falling by 39.60 points (-3.50%) to an LTP of 1,090.40. Tech Mahindra (TECHM) also faced notable corrections, shedding 42.80 points (-2.68%) to reach an LTP of 1,554.10.  

State Bank of India (SBIN) lost significant value, decreasing by 13.40 points (-1.32%) to trade at an LTP of 1,002.70, while steel major Tata Steel (TATASTEEL) slid by 3.98 points (-2.11%) to cross an LTP of 184.81.

Conclusion 

On Monday, September 7, 2026, the NSE Nifty 50 index traded with notable losses of 0.58% by afternoon. Despite minor holding attempts above its low of 23,751.75, the market sentiment remained weak, heavily weighted down by top index constituents like Infosys and Tech Mahindra.
