As per The Economic Times report, L&T Semiconductor Technologies (LTSCT) has signed a long-term agreement with Hon Young Semiconductor (HYS), a subsidiary of Foxconn, to jointly develop high-voltage semiconductor wafers. The wafers will be used in automotive and industrial applications that require advanced power systems.

Details of the Collaboration

As reported by The Economic Times, the wafers will range from 650 volts to 3,300 volts, meant for electric vehicles, industrial drives, and energy systems. Both companies will work together on design, quality testing, and scaling up production. The agreement also gives L&T Semiconductor access to Hon Young’s facilities in Taiwan to produce wafers for power components.

Manufacturing Focus

The wafers are expected to include silicon carbide (SiC) and high-voltage silicon types. These are used in power electronics to increase efficiency and reduce energy loss. The collaboration combines L&T Semiconductor’s experience in integrated systems with Hon Young’s wafer production expertise.

L&T’s Semiconductor Developments

L&T Semiconductor Technologies is a fully owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro (L&T). It designs semiconductors for automotive, industrial, and energy uses. In June 2025, it partnered with Kaynes Semicon to acquire the power modules business of Fujitsu General Electronics for ₹118.32 crore. Last year, the company signed an R&D agreement with IBM and bought the design startup SiliConch Systems for ₹183 crore.

Foxconn’s Broader Plans

Foxconn has been increasing its semiconductor and electronics presence in India. It recently formed a joint venture with HCL to set up a chip packaging and testing unit in Noida. In Tamil Nadu, the company plans to invest ₹15,000 crore to expand its operations. Taiwan’s government also approved $2.2 billion of new Foxconn investments in India and the US.
