
India's electric vehicle (EV) retail sales reached a record high in June 2026, reflecting strong adoption across vehicle segments. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), EV retail sales increased nearly 63% year-on-year (YoY) to 3,06,220 units, marking the highest monthly sales recorded by the industry.
The growth came despite a delayed monsoon and a seasonally weaker demand period. During the month, EVs accounted for more than 12% of total vehicle retail sales, marking the first time EV penetration crossed this milestone.
June 2026 witnessed the highest monthly EV retail sales recorded by FADA across all vehicle segments.
According to FADA:
Total EV retail sales stood at 3,06,220 units, up nearly 63% YoY.
Overall EV penetration crossed 12% of total vehicle retail sales for the first time.
Electric passenger vehicles (PVs) and electric commercial vehicles (CVs) recorded their highest-ever monthly retail sales.
Growth was driven by broad-based demand across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial vehicles.
FADA President C S Vigneshwar said June represented a defining month for India's EV transition, with record retail sales across vehicle categories and growing participation from both legacy automakers and new entrants.
Electric two-wheelers remained the largest contributor to India's EV sales during June 2026.
Retail sales increased 75% YoY to 1,93,735 units.
Sales also rose 13.5% compared to May 2026.
EV penetration in the two-wheeler segment increased to 10.6%, compared with 9.3% in May and 7% a year ago.

TVS Motor retained its leadership position, while Ola Electric's retail sales declined nearly 22% YoY, despite improving sequentially over May.
Electric passenger vehicles also recorded their strongest-ever monthly performance.
Retail sales more than doubled YoY to a record 31,823 units.
Sales increased 19.3% compared to May.
EV penetration in the passenger vehicle segment rose to 7.7%, up from 6.6% in May and 4.8% a year ago.

Tata Motors continued to lead the electric passenger vehicle segment, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra and JSW MG Motor India.

Electric commercial vehicles posted the fastest growth among all major EV categories.
Retail sales surged 163.7% YoY to 3,214 units.
Sales increased 33.9% sequentially over May.
EV penetration improved to 3.53%, compared with 2.86% in May and 1.57% in June 2025.

FADA noted that commercial vehicle registration data from Telangana was unavailable for the month.
Electric three-wheelers remained India's most electrified vehicle segment.
Retail sales increased 27.4% YoY to 77,448 units.
EV penetration stood at 64.1%, compared with 64.4% in May and 58.4% a year earlier.
FADA's June 2026 retail data highlighted continued momentum in India's electric vehicle market, with overall EV sales reaching an all-time high of 3,06,220 units. The data also showed EV penetration crossing 12% of total vehicle retail sales for the first time, reflecting broader adoption across multiple vehicle categories.
