IBM has announced an ambitious human-capacity development initiative in India that aims to equip 5 million young people with skills in transformative technology domains, including AI, cybersecurity and quantum computing, by the end of the decade.
The programme will be delivered through partnerships with Indian state governments, academic institutions and industry bodies. Under the plan, IBM will work with stakeholders to develop relevant curricula and deliver training at scale, both online and offline.
The initiative reflects a growing focus on closing the digital skills gap in fast-evolving technology areas that are expected to shape future jobs.
IBM has said that the programme will be tailored to meet the needs of students, graduates and early professionals, with a mix of foundational and advanced courses. The company said the training will include practical, hands-on modules to help participants build job-relevant expertise in areas where industry demand is rising rapidly.
India’s technology and services sector continues to expand, and global and domestic firms are seeking talent with skills in next-generation technologies.
Artificial intelligence and cybersecurity are among the most in-demand areas, while quantum computing represents a nascent yet high-potential field for future innovation and research.
IBM’s commitment is expected to support government efforts to build a larger talent pool suited to emerging technology roles and to strengthen India’s position as a global technology hub.
