With major Hindu festivals just around the corner, the Indian stock markets are gearing up for an extended break. Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed on multiple days in October due to back-to-back public holidays.
The festive season kicks off on Saturday, October 18, with Dhanteras, marking the auspicious arrival of Goddess Lakshmi. Since Dhanteras falls on a Saturday, the markets will be closed for the weekend as per the regular trading schedule; stock exchanges remain shut on both Saturdays and Sundays.
Normal market operations will resume on Monday, October 20, but the trading week will be short-lived.

The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also observe holidays on October 21 and October 22 for Diwali Laxmi Pujan and Balipratipada, respectively. However, MCX will open for the evening session on October 22.
Like NSE and BSE, MCX will also conduct Muhurat Trading on October 21, although the exact timings are yet to be confirmed.
