Closing Bell: Sensex Hits 80K; Auto and IT Lead Market Rally on January 02

The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 continued their upward trend, gaining over 1.5% on Thursday.
The Sensex hit a high of 80,032.87 before settling at 79,943.71, up 1,436.30 points or 1.83%. Similarly, the Nifty50 closed at 24,188.65, up 445.75 points or 1.88%, after trading between 23,751.55 and 24,226.70 during the day. This marks the second straight session of gains for the benchmark indices, with bulls dominating the market.
Top Gainers and Losers
On January 2, 2025, the top gainers included Eicher Motors (+8.55%), Bajaj Finserv (+7.84%), Bajaj Finance (+6.32%), Maruti Suzuki India (+5.61%), and Shriram Finance (+4.53%). The top losers were Sun Pharma (-0.84%) and Britannia (-0.20%).
Sectoral Performance
All major sectoral indices, except Nifty Media, closed in the green. Top-performing sectors included:
- Nifty Auto: Up 3.79%, leading the rally.
- Nifty IT: Increased by 2.10%.
- Nifty Financial Services, Consumer Durables, and OMCs: Also posted notable gains.
The market’s positive momentum reflects strong investor confidence across sectors.
Oil Prices
As of January 02, 2025, at 03:57 PM, Brent Crude was trading at $75.59, up by 1.27%.
