BSE Limited will become a constituent of the benchmark Nifty 50 index from September 30, 2026, replacing Wipro Limited as part of the semi-annual index review conducted by NSE Indices.

The change will take effect after the close of trading on September 29, 2026. BSE’s inclusion follows its significantly higher 6-month average free-float market capitalisation compared with the smallest eligible Nifty 50 constituent, Wipro.

BSE Meets Nifty 50 Inclusion Criteria

According to the NSE Indices review, BSE recorded a 6-month average free-float market capitalisation of ₹1,40,879 crore, compared with ₹55,930 crore for Wipro.

The index methodology requires an eligible stock 6-month average free-float market capitalisation to be at least 1.5 times that of the smallest constituent for inclusion. BSE met this requirement, leading to its addition to the Nifty 50.

TVS Motor Company and Divi’s Laboratories, with average free-float market capitalisations of ₹84,566 crore and ₹82,930 crore, respectively, were not included.

HDFC Life Insurance Company and Tata Consumer Products also remained in the index, as their average free-float market capitalisations of ₹65,666 crore and ₹73,054 crore, respectively, did not meet the required threshold for replacement.

Only stocks available for trading in the NSE Futures & Options segment are eligible for inclusion in the Nifty 50.

Wipro to Move to Nifty Next 50

Following its exclusion from the Nifty 50, Wipro will move to the Nifty Next 50 index. The index will also include Hitachi Energy India, Polycab India, Vedanta Aluminium Metal and Vodafone Idea.

The Nifty 50 and Nifty Next 50 are derived from the broader Nifty 100 index. Companies in the reconstituted Nifty 100 that are not part of the Nifty 50 form the Nifty Next 50.

The BSE-Wipro replacement will also be reflected in the Nifty 50 Equal Weight index.

Changes Across Nifty 100

BSE will also be added to the Nifty 100 as part of the September review. Other additions include Hitachi Energy India, Polycab India, Vedanta Aluminium Metal and Vodafone Idea.

The changes involve the removal of Indian Hotels Company, Lodha Developers, REC, Shree Cement and United Spirits from the Nifty 100.

All the announced changes across the relevant indices will become effective from September 30, 2026.

Conclusion

BSE will enter the Nifty 50 from September 30, replacing Wipro after meeting the required free-float market capitalisation criteria. The review will also result in changes to the Nifty Next 50, Nifty 100, and Nifty 50 Equal Weight indices.
