Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Reliance BP Mobility Limited (RBML) have announced a strategic partnership to collaborate in the city gas distribution (CGD) and compressed natural gas (CNG) segments, as per the news reports.
The move aims to boost India’s transition toward cleaner fuels and ensure greater access to affordable, sustainable energy options across the country.
RBML, a joint venture between UK-based BP Plc and Reliance Industries Limited, will work with BPCL to expand India’s natural gas ecosystem. “It is crucial that the end customer receives our molecule, aligning with the broader vision of promoting a gas-based economy,” said Rahul Tandon, Business Head for Gas at BPCL, as per the news reports.
The companies noted that the collaboration will support India’s goal of increasing natural gas’s share in the national energy mix from 6% to 15% by 2030. “It supports the government of India's ambition to raise the share of natural gas in the nation's energy mix from the current 6% to 15% by 2030, highlighting the joint dedication of both organisations to promote sustainable mobility and the adoption of cleaner energy,” the joint statement said, as per the news reports.
As per the news reports, Akshay Wadhwa, CEO of RBML, stated, “RBML outlets attract higher footfall, which will drive increased CNG sales in the area, thereby contributing to the overall goals of India's gas-based economy.”
With RBML’s extensive outlet network and BPCL’s energy expertise, the partnership aims to scale up CNG accessibility nationwide. It also aligns with India’s broader clean energy vision, encouraging greater adoption of alternative fuels while strengthening the country’s mobility infrastructure.
