The Adani Group has announced its entry into India’s battery energy storage segment with a new project in Gujarat. Shortly after, Adani Total Gas Limited (ATGL) clarified that the initiative is unrelated to its operations, following reports linking it to the development.
The project marks a key step in expanding India’s renewable energy infrastructure.
Adani Total Gas Limited issued a clarification stating that the recent report titled “Adani plans India’s biggest battery storage in Gujarat” does not relate to its business activities.
The statement, released via a regulatory filing, sought to address confusion over the company’s involvement in the group’s broader renewable energy plans.
The Adani Group has confirmed the establishment of a 1126 MW/3530 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at Khavda in Gujarat, which is also the site of a large renewable energy park.
The project is expected to be operational by March, comprising over 700 BESS containers.
According to the group, the system will support India’s energy transition by addressing grid stability issues, reducing peak load pressures, and limiting solar energy losses.
While the investment details remain undisclosed, the initiative aligns with the group’s ongoing diversification within the energy sector.
Gautam Adani stated that energy storage is central to a renewable-based power ecosystem. The group plans to build on this development by increasing its storage capacity to 15 GWh by FY27, with an eventual goal of 50 GWh within five years.
This expansion aims to strengthen India’s renewable power infrastructure and enhance grid reliability.
Adani Total Gas Limited share price was trading at ₹620, marking a marginal decline of ₹0.15 or 0.02% from the previous close of ₹620.15.
The stock opened slightly higher at ₹622 and touched an intraday high of ₹624, before dipping to a low of ₹619.10.
