The newly elected government in West Bengal, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has launched a series of significant policy measures.

These include implementing the 7th Pay Commission for state employees, offering free bus travel for women, and introducing the Annapurna Bhandar scheme.

Implementation of the 7th Pay Commission

The West Bengal cabinet has approved the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission, a move that seeks to align the state's pay scale with those of the central government.

This decision aims to bridge the existing gap in salaries between state and central government employees, thereby addressing a long-standing issue.

Annapurna Bhandar Scheme for Women

The Adhikari-led cabinet has also introduced the Annapurna Bhandar scheme, under which ₹3,000 will be provided monthly to eligible women.

This is set to replace the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme initiated by the previous government, which offered ₹1,500 per month to beneficiaries.

Free Travel for Women

In addition to financial support, the government has announced free travel for women on government buses, effective from June 1, 2026.

This initiative is expected to encourage greater mobility and access to opportunities for women across the state, enhancing their economic and social participation.

Halt on Religion-Based Incentive Schemes

Another notable decision by the new administration is the cessation of religion-based incentive schemes.

The government has opted to focus on policies that benefit all citizens, thereby promoting an inclusive approach to governance.

Conclusion

The policy measures introduced by the newly elected government in West Bengal signify their commitment to fulfilling election promises. With the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission and the introduction of schemes like Annapurna Bhandar and free travel for women, the government is taking tangible steps towards economic reform and social empowerment.
