On February 16, 2026, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar transferred ₹10,000 to the bank accounts of 25 lakh women as part of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, a scheme aimed at encouraging self‑employment and livelihood creation, as per PTI report.
The direct benefit transfer amounted to ₹2,500 crore, with each beneficiary receiving ₹10,000. The payment was executed from the chief minister’s official residence and recorded by the state’s chief ministerial office.
The scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2025, has already reached 1.81 crore women who received the same amount earlier.
The programme seeks to empower women by providing seed capital for small enterprises, vocational training, and other livelihood activities. Officials state that beneficiaries who utilise the funds for business set‑up may qualify for an additional ₹2 lakh assistance.

Payments are processed through the Direct Benefit Transfer system, ensuring funds reach the intended bank accounts without intermediaries. The state government monitors utilisation through periodic surveys and links the additional ₹2 lakh support to verified business creation.
To date, 1.81 crore women have benefited from the initial ₹10,000 allocation. The recent disbursement expands the total reach to 25 lakh women. The upcoming ₹2 lakh assistance will be targeted at select beneficiaries who demonstrate successful enterprise establishment.
The disbursement of ₹10,000 to 25 lakh women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana represents a significant financial commitment by the Bihar government to promote women‑led entrepreneurship and self‑employment.
