The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana has received a strong response soon after its launch, with more than 1.45 lakh women registering for the scheme. According to a PTI report, 1,47,215 registrations and 10,286 completed applications had been recorded on the scheme's online portal until 10 PM on August 2, 2026.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the online portal for the direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme on August 1, 2026. Under the scheme, eligible women will receive ₹2,500 per month, and the Delhi government has allocated ₹5,100 crore for its implementation.
According to the PTI report, the Delhi Cabinet had approved the scheme earlier this week. The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana was one of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) key election promises during the Delhi Assembly elections.
As of 10 PM on August 2, 2026:
1,47,215 women had completed registration.
10,286 applications had been successfully submitted through the online portal.
Women meeting the following conditions are eligible to apply:
Age between 21 and 60 years.
Annual family income of up to ₹2.5 lakh.
Apart from meeting the eligibility criteria, applicants must also obtain a recommendation letter signed by the MLA or MP of their constituency.
According to reports, a dedicated section has been added to the application form requiring the signature of the local elected representative. The provision has been introduced to improve transparency and involve public representatives in the application process.
Under the scheme:
₹1,000 will be transferred directly to the beneficiary every month.
The remaining ₹1,500 will be placed in a fixed deposit with a three-year lock-in period.
The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana has attracted more than 1.45 lakh registrations within days of its launch, reflecting strong public interest. Eligible women can apply through the online portal, but they must satisfy the prescribed eligibility conditions and submit a recommendation letter from their local MLA or MP to complete the application process.
