As per news reports, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on September 8, 2025, announced an increase in the monthly stipend for anganwadi workers and helpers. The announcement was made through a post on X.
Anganwadi workers, known as sevikas, will now receive ₹9,000 per month, up from ₹7,000 earlier. Helpers, or sahayikas, will get ₹4,500, compared to the previous ₹4,000. The Chief Minister confirmed that directions have been issued to the concerned department.
According to government estimates, more than 1.20 lakh anganwadi workers and helpers across the state will benefit from the revised stipends. These workers run centres that provide services in nutrition, maternal health, and child welfare.
Kumar highlighted the role of anganwadi workers in implementing welfare schemes since his government took charge in November 2005. He referred to their contribution in supporting programmes for children and pregnant women.
The directive for the revised stipends has been issued to the concerned departments. Payments under the new structure are expected to begin shortly, covering all eligible anganwadi workers and helpers across Bihar.
