Annapurna Yojana: West Bengal's New Welfare Scheme Offers ₹3,000 Monthly Assistance to Eligible Women from June 1, 2026

West Bengal's government has initiated a transformative welfare scheme for women, replacing the previous Lakshmir Bhandar initiative.  

The newly launched Annapurna Yojana offers substantial financial assistance to eligible women across the state starting June 1, 2026. 

Annapurna Yojana Unveiled 

The Annapurna Yojana marks a significant change in women's welfare schemes in West Bengal.  

This programme provides a uniform ₹3,000 monthly aid to eligible women, far exceeding the ₹500-₹1,700 range under Lakshmir Bhandar.  

This new direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme aims to promote financial inclusion and empowerment among women by directing funds into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. 

Eligibility and Application Process 

The scheme stipulates that eligible beneficiaries must be women between 25 and 60 years old, residing in West Bengal.  

Further conditions include not being an income taxpayer, government employee, pensioner, or staff in government-aided institutions, ensuring support for those outside formal income systems. 

Annapurna Yojana involves both online and offline applications. Applicants can obtain forms from the official Social Security portal and apply through the online system.  

Additionally, offline submissions are accepted at camps, panchayats, and local offices. 

Enhanced Verification Process 

Applications undergo a rigorous verification process aimed at accurate beneficiary identification. Block Development Officers and Sub-Divisional Officers will scrutinise rural and urban applications, respectively, before District Magistrate approval.  

This thorough validation process is set to ensure that the scheme reaches the individuals who need it the most.

Transitioning from Lakshmir Bhandar 

Annapurna Yojana replaces Lakshmir Bhandar, which previously targeted economically weaker households with monthly benefits.  

Existing beneficiaries will continue receiving assistance during the transition phase, gradually being shifted to the new scheme post-validation.
