The Annapurna Yojana, aimed at providing a monthly allowance of ₹3,000 to eligible women in West Bengal, faced a considerable number of application rejections. While 1.1 crore beneficiaries received the first tranche, multiple factors might contribute to payment delays.

Application Verification Issues

As per the Livemint news report, among 1.6 crore applications submitted, 26 lakh faced rejection. Primary reasons include doubts over citizenship, domicile status, and other discrepancies, according to the state's Chief Minister. Applicants must ensure all documentation is accurate and supported by valid identifications.

Bank Account and DBT Activation

An essential step for receiving payments is ensuring Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) activation. Beneficiaries need to link their bank accounts with their Aadhaar numbers to facilitate payment processing. Visit your bank if these specifics are pending.

Name Mismatch

A mismatch between the account holder's name and the details on the application or Aadhaar card can lead to delays. Correct any discrepancies observed to ensure smooth processing of the benefit.

Unique Mobile Number Requirement

Using the same mobile number for multiple applications within a family can cause delays. Each applicant should provide unique details, reinforcing eligibility and authenticity.

Non-Eligibility Criteria

Certain criteria make families ineligible, such as permanent government employment, government pensioner status, and taxpayer status. Verifying these conditions before applying helps streamline eligibility assessment.

Incomplete Verification

Payments may also be withheld pending a thorough verification process, typically involving door-to-door checks by authorities. Ensure that all application details are complete and verifiable.

Conclusion

The Annapurna Yojana disbursed payments to nearly 1.1 crore eligible women. However, reasons like incomplete DBT activation, documentation mismatches, and inaccurate applications contributed to processing delays for others. Over 26 lakh applications were rejected, with citizenship and domicile issues cited.
