The West Bengal government has reiterated the eligibility criteria for its Annapurna Yojana, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stating that benefits under the scheme will be provided only to genuinely eligible beneficiaries.
The government said welfare assistance should be linked to compliance with the state's public health and education requirements.
The Chief Minister said the scheme is intended only for deserving beneficiaries and that ineligible applicants will not receive benefits under the welfare programme.
According to him, individuals who have married more than twice, families that refuse government or emergency vaccinations for their children, and those who shift their children from government schools to certain religious educational institutions may not qualify for benefits under the state's welfare schemes.
He also stated that government assistance should be reserved for eligible beneficiaries who comply with the prescribed health and education requirements.
The government has previously linked welfare benefits to child immunisation under the scheme.
During a review of the Annapurna Yojana rollout on July 1, 2026, the Chief Minister reportedly said that families refusing or neglecting mandatory government vaccinations for their children could be considered ineligible for benefits.
The move is intended to encourage wider participation in government vaccination programmes and improve immunisation coverage among children.
The application form seeks several declarations from applicants to determine their eligibility for the scheme.
Immunisation status of up to 4 children.
Type of school attended by children, including government, government-aided, private schools, or madrasas.
Details of other government welfare schemes from which the family receives financial assistance.
Family, income, and household information required for verification.
Annapurna Yojana is a welfare scheme of the West Bengal government that provides ₹3,000 in financial assistance to eligible women. The scheme has replaced the earlier Lakshmir Bhandar scheme and is aimed at supporting economically weaker households.
The state government has been reviewing the implementation of the scheme and updating the beneficiary database to ensure that assistance reaches eligible families.
The scheme has prescribed eligibility conditions for applicants.
Applicant must be a permanent resident of West Bengal.
The scheme is primarily meant for eligible women aged 25 to 60 years.
An Aadhaar-linked bank account is required to receive benefits through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Applicants must provide accurate family, income, and household details.
The application form requires information on children's vaccination status and the type of school they attend.
Details of benefits received under other government schemes must be disclosed.
Government employees, pensioners, and income taxpayers are generally not eligible.
Applicants found ineligible during verification, or those who do not satisfy the prescribed conditions may not receive benefits.
The West Bengal government has reiterated that Annapurna Yojana benefits will be provided only to eligible beneficiaries who meet the scheme's prescribed conditions. The application process includes declarations related to family details, vaccination status, school information, and existing welfare benefits to facilitate eligibility verification.
