As per news report, the Bengal government has approved Annapurna Yojana, proposing a monthly financial assistance of ₹3,000 for women beneficiaries.

This initiative marks a significant enhancement over the existing Lakshmir Bhandar scheme.

Annapurna Yojana: A New Scheme for Women

The Annapurna Yojana aims to provide ₹3,000 per month to eligible women, as part of the Bengal government's efforts to enhance economic support for women in the state.

This scheme intends to improve the financial independence of women from economically weaker sections.

The scheme is seen as a potential game-changer for women in Bengal, a demographic representing nearly half of the voters. However, official details and implementation guidelines are awaited.

Expansion from Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme

Launched in February 2021, the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme currently offers ₹1,500 monthly assistance to women and ₹1,700 to SC/ST women beneficiaries.

This expansion to ₹3,000 under Annapurna Yojana represents a considerable increase in support.

Conclusion

Annapurna Yojana represents a meaningful effort to bolster financial independence among women in West Bengal. By increasing monthly aid from the Lakshmir Bhandar programme, the government aims to reinforce support for women.
