OpenAI has completed one of the largest private funding rounds in technology history, securing commitments of up to $110 billion and lifting its valuation to $730 billion, as per news reports.

The capital infusion, led primarily by strategic investors, is widely viewed as positioning the company for a potential public listing as early as late 2026.

Strategic Investors and Capital Deployment

The round includes $30 billion each from Nvidia and SoftBank, structured in tranches. Amazon has committed $15 billion upfront, with an additional $35 billion linked to either a future IPO or the achievement of artificial general intelligence milestones. A further $10 billion is expected from sovereign wealth funds and major investment institutions.

In parallel, OpenAI has strengthened its commercial alignment with Amazon. The company plans to allocate $100 billion over eight years towards Amazon’s cloud and semiconductor infrastructure, supplementing an existing $38 billion commitment.

The 2 companies will also collaborate on building a specialised AI model tailored for Amazon’s consumer-facing platforms.

Microsoft, which remains OpenAI’s largest shareholder, has not participated in the current round but continues to maintain its licensing and product access arrangements.

Financial Outlook and Infrastructure Strategy

The new capital adds to nearly $40 billion already held on OpenAI’s balance sheet and will primarily fund expansion in data centres, advanced chips and compute capacity. The company anticipates continued negative cash flow over the next several years, with break-even targeted around 2030.

Revenue is projected to increase from approximately $13 billion last year to about $30 billion in 2026 and exceed $60 billion by 2027. Enterprise clients are expected to contribute roughly 50% of total revenue by year-end, reflecting rising corporate adoption.

At the same time, OpenAI has recalibrated its long-term infrastructure commitments to around $600 billion through 2030, signalling a more measured growth trajectory amid intensifying competition from Google, Anthropic and xAI.

Conclusion

With a $730 billion valuation and substantial strategic backing, OpenAI has significantly expanded its financial and infrastructure capacity. The funding round strengthens its position in the global AI race while laying groundwork for a potential IPO in 2026.
