Apple has taken a major step in accelerating its artificial intelligence ambitions by entering into a multiyear strategic agreement with Alphabet’s Google.
The partnership positions Google’s AI technology as the backbone for Apple’s upcoming AI features, including the long-awaited upgrade to Siri, marking a turning point in Apple’s approach to advanced artificial intelligence.
Under the agreement, Google’s AI models will be integrated into Apple’s foundation models, enabling smarter and more context-aware AI services across iPhones and other Apple devices.
Apple selected Google after evaluating multiple AI providers, concluding that Google’s technology offered the strongest platform for powering large-scale, consumer-grade AI experiences.
The integration will support a new version of Siri expected to launch later this year, allowing the assistant to better understand complex requests, provide more accurate responses and handle more advanced tasks.
Apple has made it clear that its privacy standards will remain unchanged under the new partnership.
AI processing will continue to take place either directly on users’ devices or through Apple’s Private Cloud Compute system, which allows cloud-based processing without exposing personal data.
Google’s AI infrastructure will be used only as the underlying intelligence layer, while Apple retains control over how data is handled, stored and secured.
For Apple, the deal helps close the technology gap with rivals that have moved faster in artificial intelligence.
The company had previously delayed major AI upgrades to Siri due to development challenges, making this partnership crucial to keeping pace in the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem.
For Google, the agreement strengthens its position as a core AI provider to the world’s most valuable consumer technology company, embedding its models deep inside hundreds of millions of iPhones.
