
The Union Budget for 2026–27 has provided higher allocations for ministerial offices and key secretariats, reflecting increased expenditure on administration, official travel and state hospitality.
As per PTI report, in the budget presented in the Lok Sabha on Sunday, a total of ₹1,102 crore has been set aside to cover expenses of the Council of Ministers, the Cabinet Secretariat, the Prime Minister’s Office and hospitality and entertainment of state guests.
This is higher than the revised estimate of ₹978.20 crore for 2025–26. Within this, ₹620 crore has been allocated for expenses of the Council of Ministers in 2026–27, compared with ₹483.54 crore in the previous year.
The provision covers salaries, sumptuary and other allowances, travel for cabinet ministers, ministers of state and former prime ministers, and includes Special Extra Session Flight Operations for VVIPs.
The National Security Council Secretariat has been allocated ₹256.19 crore for 2026–27, lower than ₹279.74 crore in 2025–26, to meet administrative expenses and its space programme.
The Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor has received an allocation of up to ₹65 crore, compared with ₹61.32 crore in the previous year, for administrative expenses of the office and the National Research Foundation.
The Cabinet Secretariat has been allotted ₹80 crore, up from ₹78 crore in 2025–26, to meet its administrative costs and those of the National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention. The Prime Minister’s Office has been allocated ₹73.52 crore for the coming fiscal, compared with ₹68 crore in 2025–26.
For hospitality and entertainment, the budget has provided ₹5.76 crore in 2026–27, lower than ₹6.20 crore allocated in 2025–26.
This covers government hospitality and entertainment of foreign state guests, official events at Rashtrapati Bhawan on behalf of the Vice President and Prime Minister, receptions on National Days, investiture ceremonies and presentation of credentials.
In addition, ₹1.53 crore has been allocated for secretariat assistance to former governors, compared with ₹1.40 crore in the previous year.
