Tesla has launched a six-seater version of the Tesla Model Y in India, adding to its existing range, as per news reports.
The new variant, called Model Y L, features a longer wheelbase and was introduced on Wednesday. It is priced at ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom), as per the company’s India website.
The Model Y L sits between the current variants available in the country. The rear-wheel-drive Model Y Premium starts at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), while the long-range rear-wheel-drive version is priced at ₹67.89 lakh.
On-road prices in Delhi are estimated at about ₹61.03 lakh for the base variant and ₹63.16 lakh for the Model Y L. In Maharashtra, on-road costs are slightly lower due to differences in state-level taxes and registration charges.
All Model Y variants offered in India have a top speed of 201 km/h. Driving range varies between 500 km and 681 km (WLTP), depending on the configuration.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h ranges from 5.0 to 5.9 seconds. The Model Y L introduces a 6-seat configuration along with all-wheel drive, distinguishing it from the existing rear-wheel-drive variants.
Tesla entered India in July last year with imported units of the Model Y. Prices remain elevated due to a 100% import duty on fully built vehicles.
Most passenger vehicles in India are priced below $22,000, placing Tesla’s offerings in a higher price bracket. The standard Model Y variants are currently priced at around ₹60 lakh and above.
The introduction of a 6-seater variant comes at a time when demand for larger vehicles has increased, particularly those with additional interior space and feature-heavy cabins. This has supported growth in the sport utility vehicle segment.
According to Sharad Agarwal, lower running costs, including savings on fuel and maintenance, could offset nearly one-third of the purchase cost over four to five years.

The addition of the Model Y L expands Tesla’s range in India while retaining its position in a premium segment shaped by import duties and pricing constraints.
