Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to relocate his office to the newly built Seva Teerth complex on January 14, coinciding with Makar Sankranti. The move marks the end of an era, as the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has been housed in South Block since 1947.
The new complex is part of the Central Vista Redevelopment Project aimed at modernising government infrastructure. This shift reflects the government’s vision of efficiency and a departure from colonial-era structures.
The Seva Teerth complex has been planned to house the PMO, the Cabinet Secretariat and the National Security Council Secretariat in separate buildings. The PMO will function from Seva Teerth-1, which includes modern workspaces and ceremonial areas centred on the theme of service.
Seva Teerth-2 has already been occupied by the Cabinet Secretariat. Seva Teerth-3 is designated to accommodate the office of the National Security Advisor.
The entire Seva Teerth premises, also known as the Executive Enclave, has been constructed at a cost of ₹1,189 crore. Larsen & Toubro is the executing agency for the project, which spans 2,26,203 sq ft.
A new official residence for the Prime Minister, currently referred to as “Executive Enclave Part 2,” is also under construction nearby. These developments form part of a broader plan to upgrade administrative infrastructure for better governance.
Once vacated, the historic South and North Blocks will be converted into a public museum named ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat Sangrahalaya’. An agreement for technical cooperation was signed with France’s Museum Development Agency on December 19, 2024.
The museum will showcase India’s rich heritage and history, transforming colonial-era offices into cultural spaces. This initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to preserve history while modernising administrative facilities.
The relocation of the PMO is part of a larger plan to consolidate ministries and improve administrative efficiency. New Common Central Secretariat (CCS) buildings are being constructed to house ministries currently spread across Delhi.
Kartavya Bhawan, inaugurated in August last year, is already operational and accommodates multiple ministries. These projects aim to create integrated workspaces and reduce logistical challenges for governance.

Prime Minister Modi’s move to Seva Teerth marks a significant milestone in India’s administrative transformation. The modern complex will house key government offices and reflects a shift away from colonial-era infrastructure.
Future plans include converting historic blocks into museums and completing new secretariat buildings. The redevelopment project underscores the government’s commitment to efficiency, heritage preservation, and modern governance.
