PM Modi Indonesia Visit; BrahMos Missile Deal and Strategic Pacts Under Discussion

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during his visit to Indonesia, with defence cooperation expected to be a key focus, as per news reports. 

The 2 leaders are also likely to discuss agreements spanning health, space, pharmaceuticals and food security, as both countries look to deepen their strategic partnership. 

BrahMos Deal Gains Momentum 

One of the key items on the agenda is the proposed BrahMos missile acquisition, which is expected to witness further progress during the visit. 

India's Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, said discussions have reached an advanced stage, adding, "We are hopeful of a positive outcome and expect good news." 

Agreements Across Multiple Sectors 

Besides defence, the leaders are expected to deliberate on a series of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering health, space, pharmaceuticals and food security. 

Several agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, further expanding cooperation across strategic and economic sectors. 

2-Day Diplomatic Engagement 

According to Ambassador Chakravorty, "This is Prime Minister Modi's fourth visit to Indonesia and his second bilateral visit since 2018." He added that the Prime Minister has a packed two-day schedule and that the discussions are expected to deliver "several concrete outcomes." 

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Indonesia and is scheduled to visit Jakarta and Yogyakarta on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) and Wednesday (July 7, 2026).
