The Odisha Government has directed that domestic LPG cylinders be supplied only to consumers who have completed electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) verification, as per PTI reports.
Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister K C Patra said distributors across the state have been instructed to follow this requirement. The measure links cylinder delivery to verified consumer records, with immediate effect.
The state has also moved to curb the sale of LPG cylinders outside authorised channels. Sale of smaller 1 kg and 5 kg cylinders in the open market has been stopped.
These units were often found circulating informally, raising concerns over diversion from domestic supply meant for households.
In a recent enforcement action, officials seized 27 LPG cylinders in Dhenkanal district after receiving information about illegal sales. The raid was carried out at a local agency suspected of irregular distribution.
Authorities stated that legal action would be taken following the seizure.
The verification requirement is for limiting misuse of subsidised LPG connections. As per the report, linking supply to e-KYC records may help identify duplicate or inactive connections.
The step is also to restrict the diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial use.
The administration has indicated continued monitoring of distributors and supply chains. Field inspections and raids are being carried out based on local inputs.
Distributors have been asked to ensure compliance with verification norms before releasing cylinders to consumers.

The introduction of mandatory e-KYC and restrictions on informal cylinder sales indicates a tighter control over LPG distribution in Odisha. The steps focus on verification and enforcement within the domestic supply system.
