
The Ministry of Mines has launched the second tranche of e-auction for 12 limestone blocks in Jammu & Kashmir, continuing the Centre’s mineral auction process in the Union Territory, as per a PIB report.
The launch took place in Srinagar and covered limestone deposits located in Anantnag, Rajouri and Poonch districts. The auction process is being carried out under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, and the Mineral (Auction) Rules, 2015, as amended.
Officials said the tranche includes both newly notified blocks and blocks being re-auctioned after earlier rounds.
5 blocks have been listed under the first attempt category. These are Kalindange, Naubug-Halan and Sop in Anantnag district, along with Dharamora and Faislabad in Poonch district.
7 other blocks are part of the second attempt category. These include Dooru Shahabad, Koot-Kapran and Wantrag in Anantnag, Rajpura in Poonch, and Darhal-Chittibatti, Khablian-Bharot-Danna and Lah Limestone Block-E in Rajouri district.
According to the ministry, the blocks are classified under G3 and G4 stages of the United Nations Framework Classification (UNFC), which relate to preliminary exploration levels.
At the event, Mines Secretary Shri Piyush Goyal spoke about recent changes made to mining procedures and auction rules. He said the changes were for improving transparency and simplifying approvals in the sector.
Officials from MECL, SBICAPs, and MSTC also made technical presentations during the session. The presentations covered geological details of the limestone blocks, bidding procedures, tender conditions, and the functioning of the online auction portal.
Smt Farida M. Naik, Joint Secretary and Designated Officer at the Ministry of Mines, also addressed participants during the programme.
The ministry said sale of tender documents will begin on May 18, 2026. A pre-bid conference has been scheduled for June 5, 2026.
The last date for purchase of tender documents is July 15, while bids can be submitted until July 21, 2026. Additional details related to the auction process and participation will be available through the MSTC e-auction platform.
