JPMorgan Chase (JPMC) is planning to hire around 1,000 technology professionals for its India global capability centre (GCC), according to a Moneycontrol report. The hiring drive will focus on specialised technology domains, including cloud architecture, cybersecurity and AI data pipelines.
The development comes even as the bank has indicated that artificial intelligence (AI) has reduced staffing requirements by up to 40% in certain business functions. The move highlights the continued demand for high-skilled engineering talent across India's expanding GCC ecosystem.
JPMorgan's recruitment drive is expected to target technology professionals with expertise in areas critical to its digital and AI initiatives. According to reports, candidates will undergo HackerRank-based assessments that evaluate coding ability, data structures, algorithms and system architecture knowledge.
The bank currently operates across Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Noida and GIFT City in Gandhinagar. India remains one of JPMorgan's largest global talent hubs, employing around 55,000 professionals across its operations.
The planned hiring will primarily support technology functions linked to cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity and AI-enabled data systems. These roles are becoming increasingly important as financial institutions expand digital transformation programmes and deploy AI-driven tools across business operations.
Despite wider discussions around automation, demand continues to remain strong for professionals capable of building and managing advanced technology platforms. The recruitment effort demonstrates the need for specialised talent that supports the implementation and governance of emerging technologies.
The hiring initiative is aligned with JPMorgan's broader expansion strategy in India. The bank has previously announced plans to establish Asia's largest GCC in Mumbai, spanning 2 million square feet by 2029.
The facility is expected to generate approximately 30,000 jobs over time and accommodate up to 12,000 employees within the campus. The project reflects the growing strategic importance of India within the bank's global operations and technology network.
India continues to strengthen its position as a major global GCC destination. A recent industry report stated that the country hosts 180 retail and consumer GCCs employing around 272,300 professionals.
The report highlighted that technology, customer and supply chain functions could account for more than 80% of hiring demand by 2028, while technology and engineering roles may increase from about 25,140 positions in 2025 to nearly 41,000 positions by 2028. Demand for skills such as large language model engineering, GenAI operations, MLOps and vector databases is expected to grow significantly, although a shortage of experienced AI professionals remains a challenge.

JPMorgan's plan to hire around 1,000 technology professionals underscores the continued importance of specialised digital skills within the banking sector. The recruitment focus on AI, cloud architecture and cybersecurity aligns with broader industry trends across global capability centres operating in India.
The hiring initiative also complements the bank's long-term investment in expanding its Mumbai GCC presence by 2029. At the same time, industry data indicates rising demand for advanced AI and engineering skills, highlighting both growth opportunities and talent shortages within the GCC ecosystem.
