India’s Fertiliser Imports from China rose sharply in FY26, according to data released by the Commerce Department. Imports from China stood at 5.02 million tonnes during the financial year, compared with much lower volumes recorded a year earlier.
The data showed imports from China increased 173.32% year-on-year. China became the second-largest fertiliser supplier to India during FY26 as the country increased purchases to meet domestic agricultural demand.
Russia remained India’s largest source of fertiliser imports in FY26. Imports from Russia stood at 6.71 million tonnes during the year, compared with around 4.9 million tonnes in FY25.
Shipments from Russia recorded annual growth of 35.08%, according to the data. The country continued to account for the highest share among major fertiliser exporters to India.
Saudi Arabia ranked third among India’s fertiliser suppliers. Imports from the country reached 3.43 million tonnes during FY26, registering growth of 22.7% over the previous year.
Morocco also reported higher fertiliser exports to India during the year. Imports from the country stood at 2.79 million tonnes, showing growth of 98.73% compared with FY25.
In contrast, fertiliser imports from Oman declined during the same period. India imported 1.91 million tonnes from Oman in FY26, down 35.32% year-on-year.
The figures indicated changes in India’s fertiliser sourcing pattern during the financial year, with higher imports recorded from several countries.
Separate trade data showed Saudi Arabia remained the largest buyer of Indian basmati rice in FY26. Exports to Saudi Arabia stood at 1.05 million tonnes, though shipments were lower by 10.07% compared with the previous year.
Iran imported around 1 million tonnes of Indian basmati rice during FY26. Export volumes to Iran rose 16.98% year-on-year despite tensions in the Middle East since late February.
Exports to Iraq stood at 0.76 million tonnes, while shipments to the United Arab Emirates rose 37.55% to 0.53 million tonnes. Exports to Yemen Republic were recorded at 0.39 million tonnes.

The latest trade data showed a rise in India’s fertiliser imports from multiple countries in FY26, with China recording the highest annual growth among major suppliers.
