India and Russia convened a joint round table at the Ministry of Steel on Thursday to discuss cooperation in the steel sector, as per The PIB report.

The meeting was co-chaired by India’s Steel Secretary and Mikhail Iurin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

Delegations from both countries, including industry representatives, attended the session. The interaction formed part of bilateral engagements in core industrial sectors.

Areas Identified for Cooperation

Discussions covered raw material sourcing, manufacturing equipment, and technology collaboration. Research and development was also included among the areas under consideration.

The scope extended across the steel value chain and linked industries. Officials discussed how cooperation could be structured across production inputs as well as downstream activities.

Review of Current Engagement

Participants reviewed existing ties between the 2 countries in the steel sector. The meeting included a stock take on ongoing engagements and identified areas where cooperation could be expanded.

The exchange allowed both sides to outline their approaches and constraints within the sector. It also provided a basis for further discussions on operational coordination.

Exchange of Views and Alignment

The round table enabled both sides to share perspectives on sectoral priorities. Officials discussed potential areas for alignment, including industrial capacity and technical expertise.

The discussions focused on practical aspects of cooperation rather than specific project announcements. Both sides indicated interest in continuing engagement across identified areas.

Continuity of Dialogue

The importance of maintaining regular dialogue was highlighted during the meeting. Officials noted that continued engagement would be necessary to take discussions forward.

The interaction was described as cordial and constructive, indicative of existing bilateral ties between India and Russia.
