Foreign Investors Buy ₹14,796 Crore in Indian Equities; Record Biggest Daily Purchase Since 2021!

Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) bought ₹14,796 crore worth of Indian shares on Thursday, according to Business Standard news report citing provisional stock exchange data.
This was their largest single-day purchase since February 24, 2021, when net buying stood at ₹28,739 crore, including a large promoter-driven block deal.
The latest purchase comes after foreign investors sold a record $30 billion worth of Indian equities through October. Their activity has changed over the past week, with net purchases totalling ₹20,835 crore ($2.20 billion) across five trading sessions.
Crude Oil Prices Fall, Global Funds Rebalance Portfolios
As per the report, the buying coincided with a sharp fall in crude oil prices following the US midterm elections. A selloff in artificial intelligence-linked stocks also led global funds to review their exposure to different markets.
Indian equities had underperformed other emerging markets this year. Higher crude oil prices had raised concerns about India's economic outlook, as the country is a major oil importer.
The relatively low presence of AI-linked stocks in the Indian market had also kept some foreign investors away.
Sensex and Nifty Gain Over 8% in Six Sessions
The Sensex and Nifty 50 rose 2.4% each on Thursday. The Sensex closed at 79,310.01, while the Nifty ended at 24,536.6.
Both indices have gained more than 8% in six sessions, marking their longest winning streak in a year. The rise has also reduced their underperformance against emerging-market peers.
