The government of Goa has taken a step towards modernising its traditional motorcycle taxi service by introducing the Mhaje Driver App, as per the PTI news report.
This app enables passengers to book these unique "motorcycle pilot" services conveniently via their smartphones, streamlining the transport process across the region.
On July 6, 2026, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant unveiled the Mhaje Driver App, aiming to digitise the service of motorcycle taxis, known fondly as motorcycle pilots, in Goa.
This app serves as a tool for commuters to locate and book their rides before reaching designated pick-up locations, thereby enhancing user convenience and increasing customer access for drivers.
This move intends to maintain the service’s iconic status while updating its operational methods to fit modern standards.
In a bid to ensure smooth adoption, the government announced that motorcycle pilots are not required to register on the app at this stage, as it is currently provisional.
Furthermore, for those pilots without smartphones, the app's operator will provide one, ensuring technology does not hinder service provision.
Notably, tariff charges remain unchanged, collected directly by the pilot, with no additional fees to be paid for platform listing.
Emphasising the integral role of motorcycle pilots, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant commended them for incident-free service and longstanding community trust.
In line with ongoing development, the state is reviewing welfare measures to support pilots, including a potential 50% subsidy on electric bikes and a reintroduced pension scheme for those with 50 years of service.

Motorcycle pilots remain a valued part of Goa’s public transport network. Favoured for their reliability and ability to navigate areas with limited public transport access, they have earned the trust of communities, particularly for school pick-ups and drop-offs.
The Mhaje Driver App aims to leverage technology for this service while respecting the trusted relationships pilots have with passengers over the years.
The launch of the Mhaje Driver App marks a new phase in Goa's motorcycle pilot service, introducing digital booking while maintaining traditional pricing and community trust. The app’s development supports easier access for passengers and provides targeted welfare initiatives, including potential subsidies and pension schemes for long-serving pilots.
