The Department of Telecommunications has strengthened citizen participation in tackling cyber fraud through the Chakshu facility under the Sanchar Saathi initiative, accessible via web portal and mobile application.
On February 5, 2026, the Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development informed the Rajya Sabha that the Chakshu facility enables citizens to report suspected fraud communications across multiple categories. These reports cover attempted frauds where no financial loss has occurred.
Since its launch, 5,19,662 suspected fraud communications were reported in 2025, compared with 2,08,224 in 2024 and 42,855 in 2026 up to the reporting date.
Major categories include impersonation of authorities, KYC related messages, online job and lottery offers, malicious links, investment related messages and fake customer care helplines. KYC and payment related fraud attempts accounted for 1,06,483 reports in 2025.

Based on analysis of 7,70,000 citizen inputs, 39,43,000 mobile connections were disconnected, 2,27,000 mobile handsets were blacklisted and 1,31,000 SMS templates were blocked. Actions are taken after verification, with details published on the Sanchar Saathi dashboard.
To prevent misuse of telecom resources, the Digital Intelligence Platform was established for information sharing among more than 1,200 organisations, including 36 State and Union Territory police units, 1,100 banks, UPI service providers and telecom operators.
The platform hosts the Mobile Number Revocation List and Financial Fraud Risk Indicator. Based on shared inputs, stakeholders reported prevention of fraud worth more than ₹1000 crore. WhatsApp disengaged 28,00,000 accounts linked to flagged numbers.
The Chakshu facility and Digital Intelligence Platform demonstrate a structured approach to identifying and limiting misuse of telecom resources. Citizen reporting and coordinated analysis have contributed to measurable action against suspected fraud communications.
