BSNL Signs MoU with IIT Kanpur for Next-Generation Telecom Technologies

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur to collaborate on future telecom technologies, as per ANI news report.  

The agreement covers multiple areas, including research, product development, testing, deployment and commercialisation of communication technologies designed for India's telecom sector. 

Collaboration To Cover Telecom Research and Product Development 

The partnership will focus on the development of next-generation telecom networks and advanced communication technologies.  

Under the arrangement, BSNL and IIT Kanpur will work together on research projects as well as technology development initiatives aimed at creating products and solutions for future telecom infrastructure. 

According to A. Robert Jerard Ravi, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL, the collaboration brings together BSNL's telecom network experience and IIT Kanpur's technical expertise across emerging communication technologies. 

Focus On D2M Technology and Digital Infrastructure 

BSNL said it has already been working on Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) technology and has launched services related to the platform.  

The company stated that the partnership with IIT Kanpur will complement its existing work in this area. 

The collaboration will also involve activities linked to broadcasting technologies and digital communication infrastructure.  

BSNL said the effort will support work being undertaken across telecom and broadcasting networks. 

Bharat Mesh Network and BharatNet Initiatives 

The company outlined its plans for a Bharat Mesh Network, which is intended to create a wireless connectivity framework capable of supporting users across multiple access technologies. 

BSNL said the proposed framework would utilise technologies such as 4G and Wi-Fi to expand connectivity coverage.  

The company also stated that the initiative is intended to support digital services and broadcasting access across different regions. 

Separately, BSNL said the BharatNet rollout has already commenced and is being monitored regularly. The company added that implementation is proceeding according to its planned 3-year rollout schedule. 

Work On Future Telecom Technologies 

BSNL stated that it is moving towards an all-IP platform and plans to work with IIT Kanpur on the development of future telecom products and technologies. 

The collaboration will cover areas such as telecom network innovation, communication systems, digital infrastructure and technology development for connectivity requirements across the country.

Conclusion
