Banks in selected states are closed today due to regional festival observances. As per the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar, bank branches in Odisha, Uttarakhand and Manipur are not operating on July 16.
The holiday is being observed for Ratha Yatra, Kang (Rathajatra), and Harela celebrations. Banking operations in the rest of the country continue as per normal working hours.
According to the Reserve Bank of India's state-wise holiday schedule, banks are closed in Odisha, Uttarakhand and Manipur on July 16. The holiday has been declared to mark regional festivals celebrated in these states.
Customers planning branch visits for banking services may experience disruptions in these locations. Branch operations in other states and union territories remain unaffected and continue as scheduled.
Ratha Yatra is one of the most prominent festivals in Hinduism and is widely celebrated across several regions of India. The festival features grand chariot processions carrying the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra through public streets.
In Odisha, particularly in Puri, the event attracts millions of devotees every year. The festival's cultural and religious significance makes it a recognised bank holiday in the state.
In Manipur, Ratha Yatra is celebrated as Kang Chingba, commonly known as Kang. The festival is observed with large public participation, especially in Imphal, where devotees gather to pull ceremonial chariots through the city.
The celebrations typically continue over several days and hold deep religious importance in the region. Due to these observances, bank branches across the state remain closed on the designated holiday.
While physical bank branches remain closed in the affected states, digital banking services continue without interruption. Customers can access internet banking platforms, mobile banking applications, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services and ATMs for routine transactions.
Online fund transfers, bill payments and digital merchant payments remain operational throughout the day. However, branch-dependent services such as cheque clearance, demand draft issuance, locker access and document verification will resume only on the next working day.

The bank holiday on July 16 applies specifically to Odisha, Uttarakhand and Manipur due to the observance of Ratha Yatra, Kang and Harela festivals. Customers in these states may not be able to access physical branch services during the holiday. At the same time, digital banking channels continue to support day-to-day financial transactions. The RBI's state-wise holiday calendar remains an important reference for customers planning banking activities across different regions of the country.
