Delhi Traffic Police has been onboarded onto the Bharat Connect platform under the e-challan category, allowing motorists to pay traffic fines through applications connected to the network, as per news reports.
The integration has been completed by NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd (NBBL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
The implementation was carried out with support from State Bank of India (SBI), which acted as the Biller Operating Unit (BOU) for the project.
The development comes amid a large volume of traffic enforcement activity in the national capital. According to NBBL, Delhi Traffic Police issues more than 28,000 challans every day through camera-based monitoring systems as well as physical ticketing by traffic personnel.
The number shows challans generated across different categories of traffic violations and enforcement mechanisms operating across the city.
Until now, payments for traffic challans were mainly made through the Delhi Traffic Police website. Other options included point-of-sale (POS) machines, cash payments, demand drafts, and cheques.
With the latest integration, users can search for pending challans, view details, and make payments through Bharat Connect-enabled platforms that are part of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).
Delhi joins a number of states and authorities already using Bharat Connect for e-challan collections. Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh have also adopted the platform for traffic fine payments.
The addition of Delhi further expands the use of BBPS for government-related collections beyond traditional utility and bill payment services.
Bharat Connect is operated by NBBL under the BBPS framework regulated by the Reserve Bank of India. The platform supports payments across several categories, including electricity, water, gas, education fees, insurance premiums, and government services.
NBBL said the integration is intended to make public service payments available through a common interoperable payment network.
