Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) was founded in 1974 as a federal regulatory agency, responsible for overseeing futures trading within the United States. Its authority is derived from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission Act, which was amended in the same year. The commission is composed of five commissioners, with one designated as chairman. They are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, remaining independent of all cabinet departments.
