GAIL Launches Green Hydrogen Plant in Madhya Pradesh

GAIL (India) Limited informed in a stock exchange filing that the company had installed its first Green Hydrogen Plant at GAIL Vijaipur in Madhya Pradesh. The plant was inaugurated on May 24, 2024, by Shri Pankaj Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, in a ceremony attended by GAIL Chairman and Managing Director Shri Sandeep Gupta, Director (Projects) Shri Deepak Gupta, Director (Human Resources) Shri Ayush Gupta, and other senior officials.

The company stated this as a significant step towards entering into new and alternative energy, in line with the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

This Green Hydrogen plant has a capacity of producing 4.3 TPD of Hydrogen through 10MW PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) Electrolyser units, which electrolyse water using renewable power. The purity of hydrogen from this plant shall be 99.999% (by volume) and will be produced at a pressure of 30 Kg/cm2.

GAIL (India) Limited stated that initially, the hydrogen produced from this unit will be used as fuel along with Natural Gas for captive purposes in the various processes and equipment running at the existing plant at Vijaipur. Additionally, there are plans to dispense this hydrogen to retail customers in nearby areas, transported through high-pressure cascades.

In addition to sourcing renewable power through open access, GAIL is establishing approximately 20 MW of solar power plants at Vijaipur, both ground-mounted and floating, to supply green power for the 10 MW PEM electrolyser.

Meanwhile, GAIL (India) Limited reported a Profit before Tax (PBT) of ₹11,555 in FY 2024, up 75 % from ₹6,584 crore in FY 2023. Profit after Tax (PAT) in FY 2024 stood at ₹8,836 crore as against ₹5,302 crore in FY 2023, an increase of 67%. The company’s Revenue from Operations stood at ₹1,30,638 crore in FY 2024 as against ₹1,44,302 crore in FY 2023.

On May 27, 2024, the share price of GAIL (India) Ltd opened at ₹206.75, touching the day’s high at ₹207.15, as of 9:39 AM on the NSE.
