GreenCell Mobility, promoted by Eversource Capital, has announced plans to deploy 570 electric buses in Delhi over the next few months under the Delhi Government’s e-bus initiative, as per PTI report. The move signals a major scale-up in electric public transport across the capital.
The rollout comes shortly after the company secured significant international funding to expand its electric vehicle operations across India.
The company will introduce 12-metre, air-conditioned electric city buses built with higher battery capacity and configured for Delhi’s traffic and road conditions. These buses are designed to support intensive urban operations.
Operations will be run from depots at Rajghat, Dilshad Garden and Seemapuri. The deployment is expected to improve route coverage and raise service quality across key city corridors.
GreenCell Mobility said the programme is aimed at strengthening commuter connectivity while accelerating the shift toward low-emission urban transport.
The Delhi rollout follows the company raising $89 million in mezzanine funding from IFC, British International Investment and Tata Capital to support pan-India EV expansion. The company described the fundraise as a sign of strong institutional confidence in its execution model.
“Delhi's electric bus rollout represents the next phase of India's public transport transition from pilots to scaled, city-wide adoption. This deployment showcases how institutional capital, policy intent and operational capability can come together to deliver clean mobility at scale,” said Devndra Chawla, Managing Director and CEO at GreenCell Mobility.
The company currently operates more than 1,200 electric buses and over 270 charging stations nationwide, covering both intra-city and inter-city routes.
GreenCell Mobility has won projects under the National E-Bus Program and PM Seva E-Mobility Program across multiple states and Puducherry. With recent awards and funding support, it plans to expand its fleet to more than 3,700 electric buses.
Apart from city transport projects, the company also runs 50 intercity electric buses for MSRTC. Large-scale electric bus deployments are underway in states including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.
With a 570-bus Delhi deployment and fresh global capital, GreenCell Mobility is accelerating its push toward scaled, city-level electric public transport.
