Eternal Limited is expanding its District platform beyond dining and movies as it looks to capture a larger share of India’s growing offline consumption. The company plans to build District into a broader platform covering shopping, sports, live events and other out-of-home experiences. The development comes as urban consumers increasingly spend on leisure and entertainment.

What Is Eternal (Formerly Zomato) Planning With District?

District CEO Rahul Ganjoo, in an interview with The Economic Times, said offline shopping could become District’s second-largest business within three years. While dining is expected to remain the largest category, Eternal is looking to add more offline activities to the platform.

District aims to act as a digital platform for discovering, booking and paying for activities that consumers experience outside their homes. This includes restaurant reservations, movie tickets, shopping, sports sessions and live events.

District to Expand Into Shopping and Events

Eternal is also looking to strengthen District’s presence in the events segment. The company sees a shortage of suitable venues as a major constraint for India’s growing live entertainment market.

As part of its plans, District is exploring venue rights, public-private partnerships and investments in physical infrastructure. It already operates Terraform, a concert arena in Bengaluru, and is considering additional venues.

Ganjoo also said cross-category transactions on District have nearly doubled over the past 8 months, suggesting that users are increasingly engaging with multiple categories through the platform.

What Could This Mean for Eternal?

Eternal’s District strategy could give the company another growth avenue beyond Zomato’s food delivery and Blinkit’s quick-commerce businesses. Instead of focusing only on convenience, Eternal is looking to participate in how consumers spend their leisure time.

Conclusion

The company is targeting $3 billion in net order value by FY30, with dining expected to remain the largest category and shopping emerging as a significant contributor.

Overall, Eternal’s plan is to turn District into a broader platform for offline consumption. The success of this strategy will depend on how quickly it can scale new categories, attract repeat users and build sustainable economics across the business.
