Tata Steel Share Price in Focus; Extends Green Steel Project JLoI Until March 2027

Tata Steel has been given more time to work with the Dutch government and the Province of North Holland on its Green Steel Project in the Netherlands. The three parties have agreed to extend their Joint Letter of Intent (JLoI) by five months, taking it up to March 1, 2027.
The extension is meant to allow discussions to continue on several matters that still need to be resolved before the project can move towards a final agreement and investment decision.
Green Steel Talks Get More Time
The original non-binding JLoI was signed in September 2025 and included potential state backing of up to €2 billion. Tata Steel said the shared ambition behind the project remains unchanged.
The project is aimed at making steel production at IJmuiden cleaner and more sustainable while also improving the surrounding living environment.
Several Issues Still on the Table
Tata Steel said the parties are working through changes that have emerged since the original agreement. These include network tariffs, market conditions and changes to the regulatory environment.
The European Commission's revised timeline for phasing out free carbon dioxide allowances is also among the matters being considered as the project moves towards a final investment decision.
Tata Steel Reviews Project Spending
With the basic engineering phase nearing completion, Tata Steel Nederland is reviewing how spending and execution should be prioritised for the Green Steel Project.
The company said the exercise takes into account the circumstances that have changed since the project was first agreed. Key permitting procedures for the wind barrier, coverages and project installations have also been initiated.
Coke and Gas Plants Under Review
Tata Steel Nederland is also discussing options with the Province of North Holland and the Environmental Agency for the safe and controlled closure of its coke and gas plants.
The company said work on the project is continuing while these areas are being addressed alongside its longer-term plans for the Netherlands operations.

Tata Steel Share Price Performance

Conclusion
The JLoI extension gives Tata Steel and its Dutch counterparts additional time to work through the remaining project issues. The parties will now continue discussions until March 1, 2027, with the shared objective of reaching a final agreement and investment decision.
