
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV) and its subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc have commenced manufacturing operations at their new facility located at Panapakkam in Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu.
The commencement of operations was announced on February 9, 2026. The Panapakkam unit represents the first phase of a greenfield manufacturing facility developed for producing passenger vehicles for Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Jaguar Land Rover.
The first vehicle manufactured at the plant is the Range Rover Evoque, which has been produced locally for the Indian market.
The facility was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin along with N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, in the presence of state industry officials.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has outlined a total investment of ₹9,000 crore for the development of the Panapakkam manufacturing unit.

The Panapakkam plant integrates automated manufacturing systems and a trained shopfloor workforce drawn from across Tamil Nadu.
Employees at the facility are part of Tata Motors’ Lakshya programme, under which selected polytechnic graduates underwent 5 months of practical training at Jaguar Land Rover facilities before deployment.
The facility has a designed annual production capacity of 2,50,000 vehicles for domestic and export markets.
According to the company, the plant has the potential to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities and support the growth of ancillary suppliers in the region.
The Panapakkam unit has been designed with renewable energy usage, water positive operations and resource efficiency measures. Environmental considerations have been integrated into manufacturing processes in line with internal sustainability guidelines.
