Tata Chemicals share price (NSE: TATACHEM) gained as much as 6% in intraday trade on Friday, August 7, 2026, even though the company recently reported weaker quarterly earnings. The rally came after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) retained Tata Sons on its list of Upper Layer Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFC-UL) for FY27.

Tata Chemicals Share Price Rallies

Tata Chemicals shares opened around 2% higher at ₹675.40 and later touched an intraday high of ₹702 on the NSE. The stock also snapped its 3-day losing streak.

Why Did the Stock Rise?

The main trigger for the rally was the RBI's updated NBFC Upper Layer list for FY27.

Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, has remained on this list since 2022 under the RBI's scale-based regulatory framework. The central bank also stated that Tata Sons' application to deregister as an NBFC is still under review.

How Tata Chemicals Benefits?

Tata Chemicals owns around a 2.5% stake in Tata Sons. Based on an estimated valuation of ₹10 lakh crore for Tata Sons, this stake is valued at approximately ₹25,330 crore.

Tata Chemicals Q1 FY27 Earnings

Despite the sharp rise in its share price, Tata Chemicals reported weaker financial performance for the first quarter of FY27.

Key highlights include:

  • Consolidated net profit declined 81% year-on-year to ₹60 crore.
  • Total income for the quarter stood at ₹4,311 crore. 

Higher expenses weighed on the company's profitability during the quarter.
