Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd. (SDHI) has secured an export contract from Svitzer A/S, a Denmark-based global towage operator, to construct four advanced TRAnsverse 3200 tugs, as per the exchange filings.
The company said the order reinforces its position in the high-specification shipbuilding segment, with deliveries expected to commence in early 2028.
According to the company, the contract was awarded after a competitive evaluation involving leading global shipyards.
The vessels will be built to Bureau Veritas class standards and will be manufactured at SDHI's Pipavav shipyard in Gujarat.
The TRAnsverse 3200 tug design has been jointly developed by Robert Allan Ltd. and Svitzer for complex harbour towage and escort operations.
Featuring a hydrodynamic hull and omni-directional propulsion system, the vessels deliver an 80-tonne bollard pull and are designed to be up to 15% more fuel efficient than conventional tugboats, supporting global maritime decarbonisation efforts.
The vessels will also be biofuel-ready, compliant with IMO Tier III emission standards, and equipped with FiFi1 firefighting capability, enhancing their environmental performance and operational readiness.
As per the exchange filings, Rear Admiral Vipin Kumar Saxena IN (retd.), CEO, Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI), said, "It is indeed a notable achievement for SDHI to construct one of the world's most sophisticated towage vessels. Svitzer's rigorous evaluation process reaffirms the strength of our engineering capabilities in the niche, high-specification vessel segment.
Winning our fourth consecutive export contract also reflects the growing confidence of global category leaders in SDHI's ability to deliver to the highest international standards.”
Mr Kasper Friis Nilaus, CEO, Svitzer, said, “Svitzer’s TRAnsverse tug design offers significant benefits to customers in terms of releasing operational constraints and improving port productivity, sustainability and safety margins.”
